This position is responsible for providing direct in-field supervision of a highway/utility crew working on all phases of heavy highway/utility/sitework and/or various other related construction projects. The Project Foreman is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control. The Project Foreman is the front-line safety officer for the site/project and is directly responsible for the safety of their crew. This position will require direct oversight of all employees on the project and will include orientation, coaching, and daily direction of crew.

  • Provide leadership and be responsible for safety, scheduling, workforce planning, coordinating, supervising and assisting with cost control; assigning of resources and monitoring daily progress and reporting; ensuring the consistent and fair application of all Company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to layout traffic patterns.
  • Ability to layout project controls, maintain site reference points and the calculation/setting of grades.
  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of all types of highway construction equipment.
  • Hands-on construction experience with CTDOT, heavy highway, civil, sitework, sewer, water, drainage, etc.
  • Assesses competency and capability of employees on the project and evaluates the capabilities of the crew members. Perform quality control inspections, verify work complies with applicable specifications and permits.
  • Foreman will report directly to the assigned Project Manager and will communicate timely and effectively to the Project Manager on all aspects of the project.
  • Assist and work with Project Manager on changes and preparing change orders.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be hard-working, dependable and fit and able to perform duties.
  • This is a working Foreman position requiring the operation of equipment, laying out of daily project duties and managing tasks of the assigned job.
  • The position requires 7 years’ experience as a Foreman in Heavy Highway/Civil construction with proven knowledge of the current state safety regulations.
  • The normal work week is Monday-Friday with the possibility of Saturdays during the construction season. The number of hours per week could exceed 40.
  • Applicant must also possess the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written communication.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and a qualifying driving record under company policy.  Hoisting license preferred, but not required.
  • Additional degrees in civil engineering or construction management preferred but not required.
